8 Bets for the Holiday Week | Beery's Bets Nov 26-30

I’m feeling a little karma coming my way this week as college basketball — my strong suit — returns to the realm of sports.

Well, another week, another 2-3 showing for Beery’s Bets. If nothing else, I’ve been consistent. That brings my overall record to 6-9 through three weeks.

And last week, I was pretty unlucky as well. I had the over in Bedlam, and Oklahoma State failed to score in the game’s final minutes after setting themselves up with a 1st-and-goal situation at the 2-yard line. The total fell just five points short.

The Packers came up short in Indianapolis, after missing a couple opportunities to take the lead late in regulation, before fumbling on the opening drive of overtime.

I’m feeling a little karma coming my way this week as college basketball — my strong suit — returns to the realm of sports. It may not be the “feast week” we’ve all grown to love over the years, but it’s certainly refreshing to see college hoops on the TV after it was ripped away from us last spring.

Here are some bets to help you get through the strangest Thanksgiving any of us have ever experienced. Because it’s a loaded holiday weekend, I’m putting out a few extra picks this week!

Thursday, Nov. 26

Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions

My pick: Houston to win (-162)

The writing is on the wall for Matt Patricia, whose tumultuous tenure in Detroit got worse last week when the Lions were shut out — by the NFL’s worst defense, no less — for the first time since 2009. Now the clown show gets trotted out into the national spotlight on Thanksgiving Day for the whole country to see. The Lions are 4-12 on Turkey Day since 2004, including three straight losses.

With Matthew Stafford battling a thumb injury and numerous key offensive players also banged up, Detroit has its work cut out on Thursday. They’re also facing a red-hot Deshaun Watson, who has thrown 11 TDs and zero interceptions over his last five games. Look for him to feast on a Lions defense that can’t get out of its own way.

No. 6 Kansas vs. No. 1 Gonzaga (CBB)

My pick: Gonzaga -4 (-108)

I had Gonzaga behind Baylor by the slimmest of margins for the top spot in my preseason top 25 rankings a few weeks back. Now with the eligibility waiver granted for Florida transfer Andrew Nembhard, the Zags are the clear-cut No. 1 team, in my eyes.

They’ll tip off their quest for their first national title in school history in a big way on Thursday — a top-10 matchup with blue-blood Kansas. Need a break from the Lions as you feast on Thursday afternoon? Flip over to see two of the best teams — and two of the best coaches of our generation — go at it.

Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys

My pick: Over 46 total points (-110)

Washington-Dallas. Thanksgiving Day. First place in the NFC East on the line. At pretty much any point throughout the course of history, this would be the game of the week in the NFL, no questions asked. But both teams are sitting at a brutal 3-7 in the league’s worst division. This hardly feels like a holiday treat.

But part of me truly is intrigued — which one of these teams will limp into a home playoff game, and could we really see a four-or-five-win division champ? The Cowboys have Andy Dalton back in action, and held their own against the Steelers a couple weeks ago. Washington has looked pretty solid offensively the last few weeks. I see a lot of points in this one.

Friday, Nov. 27

No. 13 Iowa State @ No. 17 Texas (CFB)

My pick: Over 56.5 total points

What better way to nurse your Thanksgiving food hangover than a college football game with big conference title implications? The winner of this game will have an inside track to the Big 12 Championship Game.

And both teams are putting up points in bunches. Iowa State, with the nation’s leading rusher in Breece Hall leading the way, has averaged 45 PPG over its last three outings. Texas has surpassed the 50-point mark in three games this season. Really like the over here.

Saturday, Nov. 28

No. 22 Auburn @ No. 1 Alabama (CFB)

My pick: Auburn +24.5 (-107)

It just feels wrong that Ohio State and Michigan aren’t going to battle on Thanksgiving weekend, but at least we’re still getting an Iron Bowl. Even if Nick Saban won’t be there after his positive COVID-19 test.

The Crimson Tide are rolling right along this season, and it’s hard to see them taking a home loss here. But 24.5 is a pretty big number, especially in a rivalry game with your hall-of-fame coach not on the sideline. After a rocky 2-2 start to the season, Auburn is back on track with three straight wins and Bo Nix has the talent and weapons to keep this one relatively close.

Sunday, Nov. 29

Tennessee Titans @ Indianapolis Colts

My pick: Tennessee +3 (-110)

AFC South supremacy is on the line at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Just two weeks removed from the first matchup with the Colts, the Titans will be out for revenge. It would be easy to look at that 34-17 Colts win two weeks ago and think they’ll take care of business again. But I’m betting on Derrick Henry to go off in this one and flip the script.

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers

My pick: Over 26.5 total points for Green Bay (-120)

After a 5-1 start to the season, Matt Nagy’s Bears have plummeted back to Earth, having lost four straight. Things won’t get any easier as they head to Lambeau Field for Sunday Night Football. The Packers should be able to find a way to light up the scoreboard against a reeling Chicago defense.

Monday Night Football

Seattle Seahawks @ Philadelphia Eagles

My pick: Seattle -5 (-110)

It’s no secret — the Eagles are in rough shape. Especially with all sorts of question marks swirling around the quarterback position. It’s also no secret that Russell Wilson, leading the NFC in passing yards and the NFL in touchdowns, has the Seahawks trending towards being a Super Bowl contender. This one seems simple, considering Philly hasn’t faced an offense this good in more than a month and is just falling apart offensively.
